Patch testing with Finn chambers on Scanpor These Finn chambers are used by health care professionals for patch testing. They are specially produced on Scanpor. This non-woven skin friendly tape contains no Colophony. Whist proving excellent levels of adhesion, the patch is designed to be easier, and therefore less painful, to remove than other surgical tapes. What is patch testing and why is it necessary? Patch testing is an established investigation that has been used for
the last 100 years. It is a method of detecting an allergy to a substance
that has come into contact with your skin. These substances may be found
at home, work or in leisure activities. For example; perfumes, jewellery,
cosmetics, gloves, shoes, and medical remedies. Patch testing only detects
the type of allergy that is due to direct skin contact with things outside
the body. It does not detect allergies related to diet or inhalation,
symptoms of which can be sneezing, asthma or hives. When a doctor refers
a patient they will have determined whether the skin problem is caused
by sensitivity to a substance that has come into contact with the skin. A leaflet is availiable with frequently asked questions which patients may find useful. Other Dermatology products are availiable on request please call for details.
